My early career at a leading UK marketing agency was filled with high pressure and long hours. I was burning the candle at both ends, trying to balance career progression with a social life, regular exercise, dating, reading, writing, and world travel. As a result, my mental health suffered, even landing me in the hospital emergency room.
By my mid-twenties, I was burned out and £20k in debt, still living at home with my parents - sacrificing my personal time wasn’t even earning enough to give me financial stability!
When an award went to someone who was “always the first in and the last out”, it sparked a fire in me to create a life where work didn’t overshadow living. And I didn’t just want that for myself, but for others too.
I realised that when we reject hustle culture; when everyone has the space to do what brings us joy, we’ll have a healthier world with happiness at its heart.
The journey to time-freedom
Emigrated from the UK to Australia
In 2015, I emigrated to Australia for the ‘outdoorsy lifestyle’, where I shaped the digital arm of a creative ad agency during the week and ran a travel blog on the weekends. Until one day, I won a global travel writing competition and got the confidence I needed to take real action.
Launched multiple businesses
From a campervan in the outback, I launched my freelance marketing consultancy to help business owners achieve growth while reclaiming their precious time. For the next seven years, I supported SMBs globally to achieve upwards of 300% ROI, reached six figures myself, and co-founded a digital marketing training company demystifying digital for in-house teams. In 2025, I launched Wannabe Freelancer - a brand with courses and resources for new marketing and creative freelancers.
Wrote my first YA fantasy novel
Nowadays, I have the flexibility to plan work around life, travel frequently, and pursue a lifelong dream of being a published author.
